Rosslyn Lodge 1543
In 1875 a Warrant was granted for the formation of a Masonic Lodge in Dunmow. The then Grand Master of Scotland was the 4th Earl of Rosslyn, Francis St Clair Erskine, was the owner of and resided at Little Easton Manor near Dunmow. He consented to the Lodge being named after the family and the Rosslyn Lodge was formed. After his death he was buried on the south side of Rosslyn Chapel.
The Lodge originally met at the Town Hall in Dunmow but after outgrowing that location moved to the Saracens Head Hotel where it remained, with a couple of exceptions during World War II, when building renovations forced it to move to the current location at Howard Hall in 1972.
Originally formed as a farmers Lodge it held meetings on the ‘Wednesday closest to the full moon’ to allow for easier travel in the evenings.
We now meet on the 4th Wednesday of September, October (Installation), November, January, February and March.
A lively and progressive Lodge which is very welcoming and a lot of fun. A Lodge that prides itself in the quality of its Ritual yet has a sense of humour and enjoyment. Visitors are always welcome and made to feel at home.
